Mom got a Pittsburgh cutting board from Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Shelia, too cute!
On Saturday my best friend’s family shared their traditional family recipe for perohy (or pierogi). It was a the nicest of afternoons with generations of women all cooking, teaching, and learning together. Gram showed us how to kneed and mix the dough by hand on her mother’s handmade dough board, which is over 100 years old. We all took turns rolling out the dough, filling them, and holding littlest one. And of course, the day ended with a late lunch.

This weekend i framed a contact sheet, the photographs are of my mother, taken by my father, in high school. If you don’t look closely, you would think it’s me in the photos, the facial expression, the smile, the posture; we could be twins. My mother is my mentor and my inspiration, the most beautiful woman i know. She radiates grace and love, and brings peace into my life, may i grow to become more like her.
