Believed to be over 1,400...

The Angel Tree Oak, Johns Island, SC

Believed to be over 1,400 years old, standing 65 ft tall and providing a shade canopy of over 17,000 ft the Angel Tree Oak is truly one of the most amazing things i have ever seen. It’s basically impossible to capture the entire tree in a photograph but i did my best to give you just a glimpse. The branches are so large they could each be their own tree, dipping down to rest on the ground and at times dive under the soil only to appear again a few feet later. The canopy of leaves and moss covered branches creates the most magical feeling with spanish moss only adding to the romance. Obviously the tree is now protected and visitors are not allowed to climb the branches, but i know that i wasn’t the only one imagining scrambling to the top!

Photo

Photo

Photo

Photo

she sells sea shells by the sea shore…

that line was actually the basis for my part in the all-school play one year. i wore a straw hat with shells hanging down like a veil (hot-glued together and designed with daddy in the basement, of course) and a hand painted t-shirt that said “sea shell lady.” score one for the small hippy schools.
